SUMMARY
This role supports the Treasury and Finance function under guidance, assisting with reporting, forecasting, and process documentation. The Jr. Analyst acts as a liaison between PC/M32, Tops, and NSS associates/teammates, customers, and trade partners on financial services inquiries and service issues. The role ensures compliance with store-level financial services guidelines and adheres to all company policies and applicable regulatory and legal requirements. The Jr. Analyst maintains strict confidentiality of company and customer data, promotes a professional image, provides excellent customer service, and fosters positive relations with all contacts, customers, and co-workers. Over time, the Jr. Analyst is expected to assume greater ownership with decreasing supervision and progress toward full Treasury/Finance responsibilities.
Position can be located either in the Buffalo or Schenectady, NY office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in preparing reports and reconciliations, review variances and investigate discrepancies.
- Support preparation of monthly summary reports; provide input; and assist with budget-to-actual comparisons.
- Maintain and update standard operating procedures, checklists, and documentation; assist with policy-compliance reviews.
- Liaise with Store Operations, Accounting, and Risk to collect data; assist with ad-hoc financial requests and analyses; participate in process-improvement efforts under mentorship.
- Gradually assume more independent responsibility; meet defined performance measures (accuracy, timeliness, initiative); engage in continuing education (e.g., Excel and finance-systems training).
- Provide store support for ATM, cash counting equipment, Coinstar, ecoATM, Check Cashing, Lottery, Money Orders (MO), and Money Transfers (MT) operations.
- Support shared inboxes (e.g., lottery, MO/MT) and the phone line.
- Participate in projects related to Treasury Services, including store openings and closings, remodels, relocations, equipment upgrades, and other initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management and adhere to all company policies and procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree (Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field)
- Solid accounting fundamentals.
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookup functions, basics of modeling).
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication.
- Ability to work under supervision, ask clarifying questions, and learn.
- Positive approach, inquisitiveness, and willingness to accept new projects and responsibilities.

Exposure to retail, grocery, or store cash operations.
- Prior experience in Treasury, cash services, or FP&A.
- Experience with ERP/financial systems and reporting tools.
- Some exposure to forecasting, budgeting, or variance analysis.
- Basic familiarity with cash management or banking operations.

Independently manage at least 60% of variance investigations.
- Contribute to updating key performance indicator (KPI) reporting and then lead updates independently.
- Document and refine 3–4 Treasury-related processes.
- Qualify for transition to the full Treasury Services Analyst role upon review.
