SUMMARY
The Manager of Production Planning leads production planning, people management, and IT systems ownership to ensure the commissary executes reliable, accurate, and on‑time manufacturing that supports in‑store stock levels. The role acts as a key operational leader who manages teammates, oversees critical planning systems, and directs production workflows to maintain efficiency, quality, and service levels.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and manage Receiving, Inventory Control, and Production Support teammates, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and training.
- Own all production planning IT systems (ERP, APS, recipe management, inventory modules), ensuring accuracy, reliability, and user adoption.
- Define and execute comprehensive production planning strategies that align with business objectives and operational goals.
- Develop, publish, and adjust production schedules based on demand, labor capacity, material availability, equipment constraints, and store needs.
- Develop and implement a robust resource planning process to ensure optimal staffing levels and skill sets are available to meet production demands.
- Oversee system data integrity including BOMs, routings, yields, item specs, and production workflows.
- Troubleshoot system failures, scheduling disruptions, and data errors; coordinate with IT to maintain continuity of operations.
- Direct daily production planning functions, ensuring all work centers operate efficiently with minimal downtime.
- Ensure that all production schedules are efficient, cost-effective, and focused on customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Finance to drive aligned, efficient planning outcomes.
- Establish and monitor KPIs tied to schedule attainment, labor utilization, throughput, and inventory accuracy.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives using lean methods to enhance workflow efficiency and service levels.
- Ensure all teammates understand and follow HACCP, food safety, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Perform other leadership and operational duties as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management or a related field preferred.
- 6–8 years of progressive experience in production planning within the food manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of high-volume fresh food manufacturing processes and quality implications of scaled production.
- Demonstrated experience managing both people and planning systems in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong working knowledge of ERP/APS systems, data governance, and system administration preferred.
- HACCP trained with experience in GFSI audits and solid understanding of FDA/USDA policies and OSHA regulations.
- Proven experience implementing effective production planning strategies in a multi-unit environment.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced planning and scheduling (APS) software.
